cool down under

so i’ve been checking out australia’s fashion week photos, [which has proven to be a surprisingly difficult task – apparently my computer and vogue australia’s website don’t enjoy each other’s company]. it’s definitely different from fashion on this half of the globe. there is a lot more playfulness in australian fashion. it seems to lack that uptight pretension you can easily spot in a lot of fashion from america and europe. i was especially glad to come upon ginger & smart while browsing, so i looked them up and was pleased to find that i liked their old stuff even better. [they even managed to make a maxi-dress that i don’t despise!] definitely an inspiration for summer dressing.

[can’t say i dig the obnoxious fringey stuff though…]

dress up

man, if i were a size zero i would totally attempt to squeeze into this kid sized phillip lim collection from neiman marcus.

[is anyone else totally freaked out by the idea of kids modeling? brings to mind crazy pageant moms and whatnot…]

sadly even the mini me collection is a bit above my price range. SIGH.

the man is a genius, truly. and i’d love to know who styles the lookbooks for his site because i am enamored. i would give anything to get that “i look amazing yet totally casual and cool” look that they put together.

good vibrations

two awesome lookbooks for spring:

mike and chris

i’m obsessed with the edwin dress, above.

sunshine and shadow

i’m a huge fan of sunshine & shadow. everything looks so fresh and cool and modern without trying too hard. i love the prints and the square buttons in the spring collection. definitely could have picked better shoes for this though.

we’re ch-uh-ained, we’re ch-aaaaained

speaking of erin wasson [well i was, anyway] i’ve been hearing a lot about her new jewelry line, lovelux. now i love erin and her work with alexander wang, but does anyone else think it’s kind of stupid? i mean i dig the crown of thorns, because, come on, that’s just awesome, but body chains? just the phrase evokes images such as this:

if you didn’t just throw up in your mouth a little, we probably can’t be friends.

the chains are supposed to go for around a thousand dollars, which is friggen ridiculous. but because i like erin and i love alex, here are some fun vids to watch:

chai on the cheap

so nylon got the scoop on the new target go! designer. iiiit’s… richard chai.
i’m not terribly excited, one because i’m not a huge chai fan and two because i haven’t been extremely impressed by any of the go! collections. i can buy better stuff for just as cheap from h&m and forever21. why buy “designer” lines at target when i can buy stolen designer ideas of better quality at the mall? the two items i have purchased from the go! collections are a denim skirt from the paul + joe line which was a total mistake [the owls on the pockets suckered me in], and this shirt from the geniuses at proenza schouler, which i actually like and wore today:

it must be my love and longing for both that lead to this post.

file under: more stuff only the olsens look good in

alright, i know this is kind of one of those ridiculous fantasy purchases that may not be entirely practical, [ie: i may never be able to get out of these once i’m in.] but i’m totally into the seemingly s&m inspired motif this season, what with the studded gladiator heels and black leather. i keep thinking about these amazing leather/pleather/latex leggings! i know they’d be ridiculously hard to pull off because they are so unflattering to people who have… y’know, thighs, but come ON! how cool would they look with a long thin t-shirt and my silver pyramid stud necklace? sexy rocker, non? i’m all about it. but i’m having an extremely hard time finding a pair, affordable or not. these ones from american apparel are as close as i can find, but i don’t think they are what i’m looking for. the material seems too light and tight and the waist is ridiculously high. i want some scrunch in mine, more like pants than leggings i guess. ah well. hopefully it won’t be spring by the time i find some, because by then they will just meld right on to my skin, for an all day thighs-sticking-to-leather-car-seats feel. yum!

topshop unique

by the way, the above line [whose leggings are out of stock :(] is very cool, werkin’ that casual but sexy vibe. check itttt.
